Hongqi axial flux hub motor was successfully trial-produced

Recently, with the cooperation of many departments such as the New Energy Development Institute of the R&D General Institute, the Trial Production Department of the R&D General Institute and the Vehicle Development Institute, Hongqi’s first high torque density axial flux hub motor prototype was successfully trial-produced! It marks that Hongqi has taken a solid step in the research and development of high-performance in-wheel motor technology.

The application of in-wheel motors will make the vehicle have a series of advantages, such as simplified chassis structure, shortened power path, improved transmission efficiency, flexible driving control, and diverse drive forms. Therefore, in-wheel motors are favored by new energy vehicle manufacturers, but their pursuit of high torque density and lightweight is almost extreme. Axial flux motor happens to have high torque density, compact structure, small size, light weight and other technical characteristics, the axial flux motor is applied to the hub motor, so that the two achieve a perfect combination, but the technical difficulties in this process are endless.

In order to overcome the high torque density axial flux hub motor technology, the Motor and Electric Drive Development Department of the New Energy Development Institute of the R&D General Institute set up a special research team, focusing on theoretical analysis, design and development, process implementation, trial production test to carry out a series of technical research, after countless nights and weekends, overcome one technical difficulty after another, successfully designed the first high torque density axial flux hub motor, and successfully trial-produced off the line! The hub motor adopts the sports car-grade double-rotor single-stator axial flux motor technology scheme, with a peak torque of 700Nm, which is 50% smaller and 50% lighter than the radial flux hub motor under the same conditions, and the cruising range is increased by 5%-10% compared with the traditional centralized drive mode, reaching the industry-leading level.
