In the global drive towards carbon neutrality, green industrial policies have become a crucial engine for promoting the transformation and upgrading of traditional manufacturing industries. China, as a major player in the global automotive and forging sectors, has been actively leveraging policy guidance to boost the green, lightweight, and high-end development of the forged wheel industry, with remarkable results emerging in recent years.
According to the 2024 Industry White Paper released by the Confederation of Chinese Metalforming Industry (CCMI), seven out of the top ten domestic wheel manufacturers have completed intelligent transformation. This transformation not only improves production efficiency and product quality but also lays a solid foundation for energy conservation and emission reduction, aligning with the core requirements of green development. Intelligent production lines reduce resource waste and energy consumption in the forging process, making the entire industry chain more environmentally friendly and sustainable.
To further accelerate the industry’s green transition, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has listed 7000-series ultra-high strength aluminum alloy forgings as key supported objects. This type of aluminum alloy, known for its excellent strength-to-weight ratio, is an ideal material for automotive lightweight components, as it can significantly reduce vehicle weight while ensuring structural safety — a key measure to lower automotive energy consumption and carbon emissions. In support of its application, the government provides a premium subsidy of up to 30% for automotive lightweight components manufactured using this material.
This policy support has effectively reduced the risk and cost of joint development between original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and forging suppliers. By alleviating the financial pressure on enterprises in technological research and development and product innovation, it has stimulated their enthusiasm to invest in green and high-end technologies. As a result, the forged wheel industry is accelerating its shift from traditional manufacturing to a more sustainable and high-value model, focusing on green production, lightweight design, and high-end product development.
The combination of enterprise-led intelligent transformation and government-driven policy support has created a strong impetus for the high-quality development of China’s forged wheel industry. It not only enhances the industry’s core competitiveness in the global market but also contributes significantly to China’s dual carbon goals and the global green energy transition. Looking ahead, with the continuous optimization of industrial policies and the deep integration of green and intelligent technologies, the industry will embrace a more sustainable and prosperous future.
